Turkey Visa Types

Türkiye offers several types of visas depending on the purpose of your visit, the duration of your stay, and your nationality. Understanding which visa you need is crucial for a hassle-free trip. The electronic visa (e-Visa) system covers the majority of short-term visits, but some situations require a different approach. This guide provides a detailed overview of the most common visa categories.

1. Tourist e-Visa

The Tourist e-Visa is the most popular choice for international travelers. It is designed for those visiting Turkey for sightseeing, holidays, or visiting friends and family. This visa allows you to explore the country's rich culture, historical landmarks, and beautiful coastlines.

  • Activities Allowed: Sightseeing, vacations, attending cultural events, family visits.
  • Validity: Usually 180 days from the date of issue.
  • Stay Duration: Typically 30 or 90 days within the 180-day period, depending on nationality.
  • Entry: Can be single or multiple entry.

2. Business e-Visa

If you are traveling to Türkiye for professional reasons, the Business e-Visa is the appropriate document. It is intended for short-term business activities that do not involve local employment. The application process for a Business e-Visa is identical to the Tourist e-Visa on our platform.

  • Activities Allowed: Attending meetings, conferences, seminars, negotiations, or visiting trade fairs.
  • Note: This visa does not permit you to work for a Turkish company or receive payment from a Turkish source.

3. Transit Visa

Many travelers pass through Turkey's major hubs like Istanbul Airport on their way to other international destinations. In most cases, if you stay within the international transit zone, you do not need a visa. However, if you plan to clear customs and enter the country—even for a few hours—you will need a visa.

  • Requirement: Needed only if you leave the airport's transit area.
  • E-Visa: You can apply for a standard tourist e-Visa for transit purposes if you wish to explore the city during a long layover.

4. Consular Visas (Sticker Visas)

For purposes not covered by the e-Visa, you must apply for a traditional sticker visa at a Turkish embassy or consulate. These include:

  • Work Visa: For those who have secured employment in Turkey. Requires a contract and specific documents from the employer.
  • Education Visa: For students enrolled in Turkish universities or language schools.
  • Long-term Residency: For those planning to stay in Turkey for more than 90 days for reasons other than tourism.
  • Research Visa: For academic researchers conducting official studies in Turkey.
Important Note

The e-Visa is only valid when the purpose of travel is tourism or commerce. For other purposes, such as work or study, an application through Turkish Embassies or Consulates must be submitted. If you enter the country with an e-Visa and intend to work or study, you may face legal consequences or deportation.
